The germ (embryo) of the corn kernel, ground after corn-oil extraction: the fraction carrying corn's protein, B vitamins, and residual fat — genuinely the kernel's best neighborhood.

Why it's in pet food

A byproduct of corn-oil milling with real nutritional content at byproduct price. Among corn fractions it's the one a formulator can defend on nutrition rather than economics alone.
