What it is

"Vegetable oil" is a collective term for any blend of plant oils — soybean, canola, corn, palm, or whatever was economical. Like "cereals" and "meat", it is informationally empty by design: the blend can change without the label changing.

Why it's in pet food

It buys the manufacturer maximum sourcing flexibility on the fat line. The fatty acids are real; the identity is not knowable from the label, which matters if you are tracking a specific oil sensitivity.
