What it is
Soy protein isolate is soy refined to roughly 90% protein — the top of the refinement ladder, nutritionally a purified amino acid source with the beany matrix stripped away.
Why it's in pet food
It appears where recipes want maximum protein-per-gram from a plant: some vet diets, senior formulas, and premium wet foods use it deliberately; budget dry foods use it to make numbers. Position and company on the label distinguish the two.
